"Paradise Lost" é ligeiramente inspirado pelo poema épico de mesmo nome de John Milton, conceito que foi usado em umas das aclamadas faixas da banda: "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy". Nesse disco a banda continua mantendo o estilo mais pesado, agressivo e obscuro do álbum anterior "The Odyssey".

"Twilight in Olympus" é o quarto álbum da banda Symphony X lançado no começo de 1998. No final de 1997 e grande parte do ano seguindo o baterista Jason Rullo deixou a banda por problemas pessoais, sendo substituído temporariamente por Thomas Walling que chegou a gravar o disco junto a banda. 1998 também foi o ano em que o grupo teve fez seu primeiro show oficial, no japão, depois seguindo por uma turnê mundial. O épico do disco "Through the Looking Glass" tem como inspiração o conto de mesmo nome que é uma sequencia do célebre Alice no País das Maravilhas.

No começo de 1994 o guitarrista Michael Romeo grava uma fita demo intitulada "The Dark Chapter" que conseguiu pequena atenção da mídia principalmente no Japão, aproveitando o relativo sucesso, junto ao tecladista Michael Pinnella que fez parte da demo, Romeo decide recrutar o baixista Thomas Miller, o baterista Jason Rullo e o vocalista Rod Tyler para formar a banda Symphony X. O debut auto-intitulado foi lançado ainda no ano de 1994, era um diamante bruto no qual a banda já mostrava enorme potencial apesar da baixa produção e a ausência do grande vocalista Russell Allen.
